Christmas Day

We celebrated Christmas in Bubenreuth with thick snow upon the ground and constant snow falling most of the day. It really was a White Christmas!

 We had some really well chosen presents sent from England! Thank you all.

Then our friends, a fellow English family that go to our church, came for lunch and the rest of the day.

Christmas Eve

This year we started a new tradition on Christmas Eve making a Gingerbread House. It was truly a family effort with different members participating at different points.

9 Lessons and Carols

Last Sunday evening, 19th December, we braved the snow and ice and travelled the 35km to Bamberg, where Jemima and her fellow Girl Scout Brownies had been invited to sing at the Bamberg Deutsch-English Group's service of  9 Lessons and Carols. The service, in English was in a small Chapel at a Bamberg Gymnasium (Grammer) School. It was cold, but not as cold as at home , where we had no heating!!

P.S. We are warm at home now, and have hot water once more , after a substantial oil delivery on Monday. We did have some left, but it seems not enough to keep the boiler running!

Tennenbaum und Weihnachtsmarkt

We are spending Christmas here in Germany for the first time. We have entered into the spirit of things and bought our first real Christmas Tree. While Jonah was at a party, Pete, Jemima Elijah and I went to the Garden Centre (OBI) and chose a lovely tree which was then prepared for our special German stand and wrapped in netting.

The excitement continued as it was decorated. I had to buy some new decorations as souvenirs of our time here and to cover a much larger tree than we usually have. (We also put up our 'Crown Jewels' purchased at the Tower Of London, in November.)

The next day there was another party , this time for both boys , so Pete and I took Jemima to the Christmas Market in Erlangen.

Mehr Schnee!!

Jonah had his Winter Celebration at his school last night. It was delayed by 40 mins as the roads where so jammed and the ice on them so slippery all parents and children were delayed and some didn't make it!

This morning we woke up to over 30cm of snow. All the schools are shut. (The first time in 3 winters here).

Pete cycled to work today!
